New Horizons Conference

Connecting industry-leading experts, specialists, and researchers from around the world.

Thank you for joining us at New Horizons!

On behalf of BCLC, we'd like to express our deepest gratitude to our delegates and speakers for attending the 10th annual New Horizons in Responsible Gambling Conference. While we missed meeting in person, it was wonderful to connect virtually over two days of exciting dialouge.

Reflection: Celebrating 10 Years of Progress

In March 2022, BCLC hosted the 10th annual New Horizons in Responsible Gambling Conference, marking a decade of player health innovation, insight, and industry thought leadership. For 10 years, this important annual event has brought together researchers, industry representatives, policy makers, and treatment and prevention professionals to share ideas and drive critical conversations to advance knowledge about and support for player health.

Our world has changed in ways we could not have imagined since our first event in 2013. Ten years of New Horizons has meant 10 years of adapting to an ever-changing world. But together we have consistently met those challenges and implemented new policies, methods, and approaches to meet the changing needs of our players and their well-being.

As proven at the 2022 conference, we reflected on the lessons learned to drive the important conversations to shape a stronger, safer and sustainable future of player health.

If you missed the conference, take a moment to review some of the past presentations and discussions from our first nine conferences. Get to know where it all began and we look forward to sharing our recordings of the 2022 conference in the near future.

Keynote Address

How We Decide

If the conscious mind—the part you consider you—accounts for only a fraction of the brain's function, what is all the rest doing? Eagleman took us into the depths of the subconscious to understand how we decide, why we act like we do, and how to better align our actions with our long-term decision making. Along the way, we gained a deeper insight into ourselves. Why does the conscious mind know so little about itself? What do the Greek hero Ulysses and the subprime mortgage meltdown have in common, and what do they both have to do with gambling games? What lessons can we extract from brain science to best navigate our behavior? Eagleman helped us understand how our perceptions of ourselves and our choices in the world emerge from the hidden workings of the most wondrous thing we have ever discovered: the human brain.

Speaker: David Eagleman, Neuroscientist and Author, Stanford University
