Oregon State Lottery
Stacy Shaw is the Director of Corporate Social Responsibility for the Oregon State Lottery. She provides leadership and strategic direction for the Lottery's social responsibility program with a focus on responsible and problem gambling initiatives, as well as diversity and inclusion, sustainability and community outreach. Ms. Shaw led the development of the Oregon Lottery Responsible Gambling Code of Practice which has the unique distinction of having been voted into Oregon statute in 2015. Ms. Shaw leads the implementation of the Lottery’s Responsible Gambling program, which was awarded the 2016 Corporate Social Responsibility award by the National Council on Problem Gambling. Prior to joining the Lottery in 2009, Ms. Shaw held executive sales and marketing positions with hospitality brands such as Hyatt Hotels and the Related Companies. She also founded and managed her own marketing services agency which specialized in travel, senior living, and real estate.
Creating a Business Case for Responsible Gambling Training
This presentation is a case study of the Oregon Lottery's new retailer and employee training program " Responsible Gambling and You". The Oregon Lottery in consultation with Janine Robinson and Oregon public health stakeholders developed this multi-faceted program based on the central premise of customer service. Unlike many other training programs which use compliance mandates to ensure participation, the Lottery chose to focus instead on developing a strong and compelling business case for responsible gambling training. This presentation will illustrate how involving stakeholders from concept through execution resulted in unprecedented collaboration and buy-in. We will also discuss how using a customer service positioning enabled retailer staff, Lottery player facing staff as well as Lottery office staff to understand and embrace their own unique roles in promoting responsible gambling.
