Mr. Thomas Nilsson

Certified Psychologist & Founder of Sustainable interaction

Pitea, Sweden

Treatment Online: Does it Work?.

Mr. Thomas Nilsson shares his experiences launching Si’s first online self-help program for problem gamblers in Sweden. The program consisted of weekly counselling and motivational conversations with a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist by phone or Skype. In October 2012, Si launched an upgraded program, including the replacement of the “live” counsellor with a digital one. In cooperation with gambling operators who offer responsible gambling tools online, this program is being presented via links available on their websites.

Mr. Thomas Nilsson is a certified psychologist specialising in addictions. He has more than 25 years’ experience in problem gambling and over 30 years’ experience in alcohol and drug addictions. Mr. Nilsson is the founder and CEO of Sustainable interaction (Si), a company specialising in problem gambling. Si has developed many cutting edge products such as GamTest, Playscan and an online self-help program for problem gamblers. The company also helps national and international gambling operators improve their knowledge in problem gambling. Si’s responsible gambling education program for retailers, staff and casino personnel has received an award from the World Lottery Association.

In Sweden, Mr. Nilsson initiated the Swedish national help line for problem gamblers. For 11 years he managed operations on behalf of the Swedish National Public Health Institute. Mr. Nilsson was also a part of the research team launching a prevalence study for the Swedish Government between 1997 and 2000.
